Talk or Interview Taco Stand Vernacular – Artist talk and field trip.
The neighborhood taco shop is iconic to the San Diego region and emblematic of our shared culture with Mexico and our sense of belonging.
San Diego photographer Marshall Williams has been documenting the taco shops of Southern California since 2019, choosing to shoot in the fleeting moments between dusk and dark when the structures begin to illuminate and assume an evening persona. The final images are rendered in rich and luminous black and white prints, elevating these local institutions to an expressive and timeless form of art.
Come visit Marshall Williams’ studio for an illustrated talk on his five year photographic exploration of the region’s taco shops, their unique identity and history— and the affinity we share for them.
Then after the talk, we will visit a nearby taco shop for a field guide discussion, we’ll meet the owners and hear their story and of course enjoy some tacos!
