The Walter Munk Foundation for the Oceans was founded in 2017 to continue an iconic legacy of daring exploration and discovery through research, education, and conservation. We support international research expeditions that span from Baja to Austria, and collaborate with a global community of educators, students, divers, scientists, and researchers.
The Education Plaza on Walter Munk Way is home to THE MAP of the Grand Canyons of La Jolla®. The massive LithoMosaic installation transcends the traditional boundaries between art and science and serves to engage learners of all ages. Year-round, THE MAP hosts programs and celebrations that inspire the community.
