An interactive 1.5-2hr workshop to explore how ancient wisdom can inspire and enrich modern design. Participants will engage in guided ideation sessions, drawing from indigenous knowledge systems, sacred geometry, and time-tested philosophies to spark innovation and deepen design meaning. Through collaborative exercises and reflective dialogue, we’ll uncover how ancestral principles from around the world—such as harmony with nature, storytelling, and sustainability—can solve for today’s issues. Ideal for designers, creators, and change-makers seeking timeless insights from the community for the community.
About the Host
Chitra Gopalakrishnan
Chitra Gopalakrishnan is a multidisciplinary creative —graphic designer, artist, social entrepreneur and San Diego State University faculty in the School of Art & Design. She holds MFAs from ESAG Penninghen, Paris, and Cranbrook Academy of Art. In 2007, she co-founded Kara Weaves, a fair-trade social enterprise in Kerala, India, revitalizing traditional handloom textiles through design and global branding. Her practice spans typography, motion graphics, UI/UX, painting and augmented reality. Blending craftsmanship and contemporary design, she brings a holistic, socially engaged approach to all her work—bridging studio practice, education and community-driven innovation.
