Design Exhibition Cast: Pourfard and Upton at SOTA

For this year’s World Design Experience powered by San Diego Design Week, Nicholas Pourfard and Michael Upton present a showcase featuring collaborative cast pieces expanding on their previous earth casting project. Their meeting sparked an immediate sense of belonging, bonded by a shared love for design, creation, and experimentation. They find inspiration in mutual creative support, feeling seen and heard, which fuels their collaborative spirit. The earth casting process itself embodies this sense of belonging. Just as each human shares common traits but possesses individuality, each cast piece retains its uniqueness while stemming from the same mold. The raw materials from the earth used in casting connect people globally, grounding, nurturing, and inspiring creativity worldwide.
