Design Installation Cross-border Collaborative Art Project

Design Installation Cross-border Collaborative Art Project

This interactive three-dimensional physical and visual art experience will represent our cross-border connection and partners, personal and familial relationships within the California and Mexico region, and the political and physical walls and connections at the border between San Diego and Tijuana. This art installation consists of an interactive and physical mural. The three-dimensional mural will be an installation that symbolizes the political and cultural forces that keep us apart, and the potential for the same walls to bring us together as a connective region. Historically people, animals, and ideas flowed across the land as the border changed its position. While invisible, our understanding of the border’s impact on the people changed. Both a visual and a physical compilation, this mural symbolizes the multi-dimensional understanding of this relationship so that we can ponder where we are and where we are going as a unique design and cultural community. While this art piece will impart understanding of the current relationship, its purpose is to allow for change. This physical mural will be projected on urban surfaces and have an interactive component where participants can gain more information about the research and construction of the mural.

CannonDesign plans is collaborating with design firms in Tijuana to create the art piece and organize the display of this piece in locations on both sides of the border, as well as virtually through social media and our website.

We will be hosting at our San Diego office to celebrate and present the finished work. Join us!
