Working Design Session Movement Storytelling Lab: Designing Visual Narratives for Equity & Impact

Working Design Session Movement Storytelling Lab: Designing Visual Narratives for Equity & Impact

In this interactive, project-based workshop, education leaders, nonprofit executives, and social-justice advocates will explore how equity-driven storytelling can clarify and amplify community movements. Rooted in H2L2’s Movement Design Framework—a five-stage, research-informed process—participants will identify movement values, craft narrative elements, and experiment with accessible branding tools such as taglines, visual motifs, and storyboards. Small teams (12–20 participants total) will engage in quick research prompts, collaborative sketching, and peer feedback, producing a prototype “mini branding kit” that includes a draft tagline, core story statement, and supporting visuals. Designed for San Diego Design Week’s Design for Impact curated track, this session connects local changemakers with practical tools they can apply immediately to regional campaigns and educational initiatives. To extend accessibility, we will document key activities and share a brief recap video online, ensuring the impact of the session reaches beyond in-person attendees.

About the Host

Hundred Hands Learning Lab (H2L2)

Hundred Hands Learning Lab (H2L2), led by educator–designer Patrick Yurick, is a San Diego–based design studio partnering with schools, nonprofits, and social-justice organizations to craft equity-centered narratives and visual identities. Drawing on 17 years of project-based learning experience, our team specializes in participatory workshops that translate community values into compelling multimedia campaigns. Using our Movement Design Framework, we guide changemakers through a structured process to illuminate issues, craft resonant stories, and foster lasting impact—aligning with the values of San Diego Design Week’s Design for Impact.
