Features Venue Spotlight: The “EXCHANGE Pavilion” at Plaza de Panama at Balboa Park
In 2024, World Design Capital selected Tijuana artist Daniel Ruanova and the design agency Heleo to create a temporary installation called the “EXCHANGE Pavilion” at Plaza de Panama in Balboa Park. This pavilion became a key venue for World Design Experience from September 19-25.
The “EXCHANGE Pavilion” invited visitors to engage with its design and contribute to its public story. It aimed to spark conversations, creativity, and connections among people from different backgrounds. This installation did act as a bridge, bringing together diverse communities and fostering unity.
The pavilion reimagined the border’s “no man’s land” as a space for dialogue and connection. It reflected the region’s dynamic culture and industries. It symbolized our commitment to human-centered design and celebrated cultural exchange within our ever-evolving social landscape.
The EXCHANGE Pavilion was a collaboration between WDC 2024 and the City of San Diego, with funding provided by the City of San Diego.
