Features Venue Spotlight: The “EXCHANGE Pavilion” at Plaza de Panama at Balboa Park

In 2024, World Design Capital selected Tijuana artist Daniel Ruanova and the design agency Heleo to create a temporary installation called the “EXCHANGE Pavilion” at Plaza de Panama in Balboa Park. This pavilion will be a key venue for World Design Experience from September 19-25.

The “EXCHANGE Pavilion” invites visitors to engage with its design and contribute to its public story. It aims to spark conversations, creativity, and connections among people from different backgrounds. This installation will act as a bridge, bringing together diverse communities and fostering unity.

The pavilion reimagines the border’s “no man’s land” as a space for dialogue and connection. It reflects the region’s dynamic culture and industries. It symbolizes our commitment to human-centered design and celebrates cultural exchange within our ever-evolving social landscape.

The EXCHANGE Pavilion is a collaboration between WDC 2024 and the City of San Diego, with funding provided by the City of San Diego.
