8 Design Leadership Competencies: A way of leading to drive shared understanding, innovation, and belonging
A Design Leader facilitates innovation, shared understanding and belonging by practicing 8 key competencies: practices humility and empowers others, welcomes ambiguity, takes initiative in collaborative action, practices emotional intelligence, understands ethical design, creates peace from tension, visualizes the future and implements solutions, and reflects for learning and improvement.
During the workshop, we will go over each of the Design Leadership competencies, share examples, and do small activities to build our practice. We will reflect on how these competencies can drive radical belonging when innovating for ourselves, our family, our work, and our community.
About the Host
Madison Stevens
Madison’s mission is to lead, inspire, and promote people-centered strategies in order to create favorable experiences. She grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and is proud to be a Hoosier. In 2022 she moved to sunny San Diego where she enjoys the beach, volleyball, and exploring all the unique neighborhoods. Madison has been fortunate to travel internationally, experiencing cultures different from her own. One of her first trips abroad she couch surfed, staying with locals in Australia. It was an experience of a lifetime where she learned to not fear the unknown but rather to embrace it, particularly when interacting with people. Madison wants to continue that practice as a design leader and help facilitate better innovations for the world.
