About the Host

AIGA San Diego Tijuana - LINK Program

The AIGA San Diego Tijuana LINK Program is designed to educate and encourage disadvantaged and at-risk youth with an interest in art and design. The LINK Program operates during the regular school year, with students meeting monthly for Saturday workshops, lectures, or field trips. LINK actively recruits students who will benefit from artistic, motivational, and financial assistance to pursue their career and life goals.

The LINK Program works with San Diego City and County high school youth (9th-12th), who show promise in art and design. Typical individuals in the current LINK Program come from under-served communities, including students who are failing or not responding to traditional education programs. LINK students gain artistic experience and exposure to the design disciplines through hands-on weekend/after school programs, inspiration from lectures and mentors, and a role in the community through participation in art-related events and projects. In addition, they are exposed to a wide variety of art and design projects to help them find and develop their particular area of interest and skills and begin to create art pieces for their portfolio.
