“Express More, Excess Less: Scavenger Hunt & Creative Workshop”

Belonging Through the Lens of Design:
To VAINANA, belonging, through the lens of design, means recognizing that everyone has innate creativity and the ability to transform trash and found items into powerful expressions of art. This event fosters belonging by encouraging diverse participation and showcasing how design can change perceptions of waste, turning it into an ongoing creative process. By embracing found objects and repurposing them into art, participants will experience a mindset shift, seeing trash not as waste but as a source of endless creative potential for art, projects, and even functional devices. Inclusivity is at the core of this activity, from concept to implementation, inviting all community members to collaborate and share their unique perspectives. By addressing environmental issues and promoting sustainability, we envision a future where residents of San Diego and Tijuana come together to create a more inclusive and connected community.

Join VAINANA for an engaging and inclusive event that combines a scavenger hunt with a creative workshop, inspired by the theme of BELONGING: Radical Inclusion. Participants will embark on a scavenger hunt to collect trash, discarded bananas, and other items that can be repurposed into unique artworks. This hands-on activity will highlight the importance of sustainability, food waste awareness, and environmental responsibility.

What to Expect:

Scavenger Hunt (10-15 minutes): Start with a brief introduction about the significance of sustainability and regeneration. Participants will then set off on a scavenger hunt to collect items that can be used in their creative projects.

Creative Workshop (30 minutes): Return to a workshop area and use the collected materials to create one-of-a-kind artworks. Learn techniques for integrating found objects into artistic expressions that reflect themes of belonging and inclusivity.

Discussion and Reflection (10 minutes): Conclude with a group discussion on how the activity connects to broader issues of sustainability and inclusion. Share your thoughts and experiences, and reflect on the importance of belonging in our community.

Why Attend:
This event is a unique opportunity to engage with your community, explore creative solutions to environmental challenges, and contribute to a collective artwork that embodies the spirit of radical inclusion. Whether you are an artist, an environmental enthusiast, or someone looking to connect with like-minded individuals, this event offers a platform for meaningful interaction and artistic expression.
