About the Host

AIGA SAN DIEGO TIJUANA

AIGA SAN DIEGO TIJUANA – the Professional Association of Design

AIGA San Diego was established in 1987 as a chapter of AIGA, the Professional Association of Design. In 2022 the Chapter expanded to encompass both San Diego and Tijuana, in acknowledgement of the unique binational culture that has evolved between designers in the Southern California and Baja region. Founded in 1914, AIGA now comprises more than 70 chapters worldwide and exists to advocate for a greater understanding of the value of design and designers in government, business and media. AIGA SDTJ has distinguished itself beyond typical professional networking organizations as an action-oriented nonprofit focused on advocacy, community contribution and impact. This is reflected in nationally-recognized initiatives such as the annual Y Conference, the Urban Art Trail, Tweet Street Urban Park, the Soviet Poster Exhibition, Contact-o Binational Exhibition and more. The organization serves the San Diego Tijuana region as the voice of design leadership, and champions design as a powerful change agent essential to the greater good of the community.

MÁXIMO ESCOBEDO

With a career spanning nearly 30 years as an art and creative director, Máximo Escobedo serves as Vice president and Cross-border chair of AIGA San Diego Tijuana. Growing up in both Tijuana and San Diego, Maximo gained a unique appreciation and understanding of this binational community. With this distinct experience, Máximo was selected to design the logo and branding for San Diego Tijuana’s designation as World Design Capital 2024. A long-time design educator, he currently teaches graphic design at MiraCosta College, Point Loma Nazarene University and UC San Diego Extended Studies.
