This upcoming retrospective talk and analysis traces Isaac Mizrahi’s pivotal role as one of the most influential American designers of the ’90s. We will explore his creative peak, his career transition after Chanel withdrew its financial backing, his groundbreaking move to democratize fashion through corporate licensing (including his historic Target partnership, which came full circle when the retailer named him Creative Director at Large last month), and why a younger generation is actively rediscovering his work today. Serving as our central visual anchor, clips from the iconic documentary Unzipped will be screened and analyzed during the panel—offering an unvarnished look at the peak creative energy of ’90s fashion just ahead of the film’s 30th-anniversary theatrical re-release in a new 4K restoration on September 25.

A fashion designer and retail strategist executive, Olga Cecilia brings a multidimensional perspective to the intersection of creative vision, structural design, and commercial viability. Her professional experience covers every phase of the industry—from initial silhouette concepts and material sourcing to strategic buying and commercial development—offering a comprehensive understanding of how innovative garments transition from raw sketch to finished retail pieces. Her work elevates form, structure, and textile innovation, having been featured and displayed across premier cultural institutions and design events, including San Diego Design Week, World Design Capital 2024, the Timken Museum of Art, the San Diego Air & Space Museum, the Mingei International Museum, and The Prado at Balboa Park. Beyond her own creative collections, she has collaborated on educational initiatives alongside Dame Zandra Rhodes, contributing design sketches for a project with The New Children’s Museum as well as participating in a conference honoring Rhodes’s 50th-anniversary retrospective exhibit.
