Talk or Panel Make Me THINK!
This will be a condensed version of an hour-long talk by the same name that I’m giving at the International Design Conference in Pasadena in August.
Abstract: “As Design grows and stretches to encompass more and more activities and disciplines, the social impact of Design becomes more and more confused, and often overlooked. The world needs another wave of Radical Design, the current idea of good design being ‘invisible’ is sneaky and dangerous. We will look at how Iconic Designs of the past fueled a lively cultural discourse, often times being polarizing or provocative, whereas now the discipline frequently pushes towards flatness and compliance, and the social results are not positive. When designers ‘don’t make me think’, automatisms win, awareness and mindfulness decline. Perhaps it’s time to correct that…”

Dario Miticocchio
Dario Miticocchio is a multidisciplinary design veteran with more than 3 decades of experience in a variety of contexts: he spent his formative years working with High Design clients in the vibrant design scene of Milan in the late 1990s, after that he was forged professionally by the challenges of multi-national tech corporations in Southern California.
For the past twelve years he has been splitting his time three ways: helping run a design program (or two) at the NewSchool of Architecture and Design in San Diego, California, consulting with local companies on product development projects and lastly working on cultural/artistic projects such as group art shows and festival builds.
