Workshop From Space to Place: Imagining the Future of Downtown’s Creative Ecosystem
Workshop From Space to Place: Imagining the Future of Downtown’s Creative Ecosystem
How can art and design transform Downtown San Diego? This interactive workshop invites participants to imagine how creativity can turn ordinary downtown spaces into places for discovery, connection, and experimentation. Following a brief introduction to the Arts + Design District, participants will explore the role of art, design, and creative production in shaping public life. Working individually or in small groups, they will select a downtown space and propose a creative intervention by defining the location, the idea, and the experience it could offer. Selected concepts will then be shared and discussed with the facilitators, connecting participants’ ideas to the District’s broader vision for Downtown San Diego.
About the Host
Arts + Design District
The Arts + Design District is a creative ecosystem led by the Downtown San Diego Partnership in collaboration with the Prebys Foundation, the City of San Diego, and regional civic and creative partners. Building upon Downtown’s existing cultural institutions, architecture, galleries, studios, creative businesses, and binational connections, the District seeks to place art and design at the center of the city’s next chapter. Its work focuses on creating opportunities for artists, designers, students, makers, and creative businesses while transforming everyday public spaces into more welcoming places for connection, experimentation, and community life.
