Talk or Panel Panel Discussion: Designing for Health and Wellness in San Diego
Health and wellness are shaped by the choices, environments, services, technologies, and communities people interact with every day. In San Diego, that can mean everything from access to care and healthy food to stress, sleep, movement, air quality, social connection, and the demands of work and caregiving.
This panel will bring together voices from design, health, technology, wellness, and community-focused work to explore how we can create better conditions for people to live healthier, more supported lives. The discussion will look beyond traditional medical settings to consider how products, spaces, services, workplaces, and public resources influence everyday wellbeing.
Panelists will share perspectives on identifying meaningful needs, designing with users rather than for them, and balancing innovation with access, trust, inclusion, and real-world impact. The conversation will also consider the growing role of AI: where it may improve access, personalization, and support, and where it may introduce new risks or reinforce existing inequities.
Attendees will leave with a broader understanding of design’s role in health and wellness, along with practical perspectives they can apply across healthcare, community initiatives, workplaces, technology, and other complex human experiences.
This discussion is intended for designers, healthcare and wellness professionals, technologists, community leaders, and anyone interested in how San Diego can use design to create more meaningful and equitable local impact.
About the Host
Alexandra Sieben
Alexandra (“Allie”) Sieben is a Senior UX/UI Designer at Resmed with 10+ years of experience designing across healthcare and consumer technology. She specializes in bringing clarity to complex systems and creating thoughtful, human-centered experiences where trust, accessibility, and usability are critical. Beyond product design, Allie is passionate about shaping more inclusive futures for technology through design education, mentorship, and community leadership. She develops programming around AI, accessibility, and healthcare technology, mentors emerging designers through complex problem spaces, and serves as an Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) Local Leader supporting San Diego’s design community. Her work explores how speculative design and futures thinking can empower designers to move beyond fear-based narratives and take a more active role in shaping ethical, human-centered AI experiences.
