Design Exhibition Plaza Central: Designing Our Civic Space
Plaza Central is a large-scale environmental graphics installation that brings color, pattern, and graphic identity to the plaza at San Diego’s Civic Center: murals along the Golden Hall colonnade, graphics across the ground plane, and freestanding markers throughout the space. Designed by Maximo Creative Communications and presented by AIGA San Diego Tijuana, the work is part of the early catalyst phase of the Civic Center revitalization. During San Diego Design Week, Plaza Central opens for guided walkthroughs and self-guided tours, with an on-site talk about how the work was made and what shaped it. Participants from the morning Civic Center Redevelopment workshop are welcome to walk over together after lunch. Free and open to the public on a downtown public plaza. About the Host
Máximo Creative Communications, presented by AIGA San Diego Tijuana
Máximo Creative Communications (MXCC) is the practice of Máximo Escobedo, a designer, creative director, and educator with over thirty years of work in the San Diego and Tijuana region. MXCC develops environmental graphics, identity systems, and design programming that engage civic and cultural space. Máximo is also VP Special Projects at AIGA San Diego Tijuana and Associate Professor at MiraCosta College, where he teaches graphic design and typography. Plaza Central is co-designed with Alma V Escobedo and presented in partnership with AIGA San Diego Tijuana.
